Today’s meeting started with a little fun. The country club is doing some work on the walkway so everyone had to use the side door.
After the prayer, pledge and 4 way test we had Presentation attend to receive funds.
Our meeting progressed with our business of dues and guests. We then covered activities such as boy scout camps, Edge outreach, the Ali Walk/shuffle. Other activities we discussed was our golf outing. We do have an early bird special. The Students are going to Haiti next week. The board is having a meeting at the club.
Our guest speaker is from the back side learning center at church hill downs. Our speaker had received a scholarship in high school. She got a degree in Spanish and worked in Mexico. The has gone back in school and has finished all the work for a doctor degree. She has worked on the back side for 8 years. They have a computer center. They have computer classes, english and other activities.
She spent a little time talking about living on the back side. Rarity do they leave if they live on the back side.
They do a lot to help the community of the back side. They are a volunteer attendance group so they have to keep everything fun and entertaining.
She talked about the different jobs that people have on the backside.
This year they are going to do a survey. They have never done it formally. They are going to have students from IU south east come do the survey. By doing the survey they will be able better serve the backside.
Funding wise they are part of the Museum. They are trying to start their own funding etc but it might take some time.
They have 2 events planned. One is a dinner event with BBC & Four Roses. The second is a golf outing in memory of J.L. “buck” Wheat.
